As the holidays are approaching, now is the time to start planning AND shopping for those loved ones in our life. There is no reason to wait for the Black Friday Sales either – Amazon has special pricing throughout the year and they are support small businesses! The convenience of shopping on Amazon is worth it for me but the savings I get as well makes it so worth it. I found last year as well that it was A LOT easier to shop on Amazon and have the items delivered vs in-store shopping and trying to sneak and hide Christmas presents from my kids.
On this list, you will find tons of educational toys, toys that inspire creative play, and toys that are kid tested and mom approved. You’ll also find a lot of NON TOY GIFTS as well! Many of these items are used daily in my household, many are used with our homeschooling, and many are on our Christmas Wish List!
Here is my list of gifts for kids 5-8 (BONUS: they aren’t all toys and many promote learning through play).

Honorable mention NOT found on Amazon: iLive Outdoor Bluetooth Speakers
We originally got these speakers to accompany us on our camping trips. They come with stakes that you can mount them on and they have the capability of charging both via plugin and solar. When we got them, we quickly discovered how handy they were all over. They go outside with us when we are grilling, playing, and gardening. They go from room to room, so the kids can listen to podcasts and music. We even bought mounts for our Polaris Ranger so we can go ride the countryside with music! While these can very well be an adult gift, this is as much for us as it is for the kids! These speakers also have an FM radio, an extremely long battery life, and they are durable enough to withstand our crazy outdoor adventures!
You can find these are Walmart, Home Depot, and they are available online.
ORSEN Colorful 8.5 Inch LCD Writing Tablet for Kids, Electronic Sketch Drawing Pad Doodle Board
My kids have this writing tablet and are obsessed. I love that it isn’t the typical electronic tablet. We limit our screentime and this does not fall into the video game or screen category. We use them on the go, in our homeschool, and just for fun.
Walkie Talkies for Kids
This is another favorite in my house. My kids play with these all of the time – inside, outside, and on hikes… Walkie Talkies are great for imaginative play but they also provide important communication when the kids want to go adventure.

Duncan Toys Reflex Auto Return Yo-Yo, Beginner String Trick Yo-Yo
These are a blast from the past for me. As a child I remember the Yo-Yo guys coming and doing shows at schools. I, of course, had to have a Duncan Yo-Yo too. This is a gift that will be finding it’s way into a stocking this year!
John Deere Monster Treads Lightning Wheels Tractor
The Original Slinky Walking Spring Toy
This is one of our favorite sensory toys that lives in the house. If someone is needing some regulation of energy, you can send them off to the stairs, a table, or even to their own devices to play with the Slinky. 5 minutes in, you’ll have an engaged child who doesn’t want to disconnect from the Slinky.
